Rotoscoping Tutorial

  1. Open sequence of 6 - 8 images in Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Slightly blur the image with the Gausian Blur filter to reduce detail.
  3. Use the threshold command to make the image high contrast. [Image menu: adjust: threshold] Note: You can lasso part of the image before you use the threshold command to adjust parts of the image differently.
  4. Save the images in a JPG format.
  5. Open Macromedia Flash.
  6. Select Import: Import to stage. (If you named your files in numerical order, then you should get the dialog box asking you to import the sequence. Select Yes.)
  7. The images will be on the timeline.
  8. Use Modify: Bitmap: Trace Bitmap to convert the images into vector graphics.(Color Threshold = 200; Minimum Area = 3 pixels; Curve Fit = Pixels; Corner Threshold = Many Corners.)
  9. Test your movie.
  10. Change the background color of your movie and add an invisible button to play the movie.
  11. Save your file and publish it to the web.
