Assign.1: Animated Logo
Create an animated logo for your homepage. The emphasis is on creative design and animation technique. The logo should serve as a button and a link to a different URL. Think about the following: symbolic shape; choice of font; psychological impact of color:
- 10 - 15 seconds of animation
- Animated text
- Color effects
- A frame action to stop the animation
- A Get URL action
Assign. 2: Banner Design
Create an animated banner design. Focus on timing and visual flow. Incorporate text and imagery. The entire banner area should serve as a link to a different URL. Students should develop a theme or topic for the banner.
Review other Flash websites. How do these websites use timing, movement, character animation, and humor to create engaging animations? What planning and resources will be necessary for you to complete your animation?
Attention getting ideas. Banner ads often use clever or surprise imagery to get our attention. This is similar to the way Geico Car Insurance TV ads use "Speed Racer"cartoons. Dramatic color changes or fast moving shapes entering the frame can also be used to get attention.
Banner ads often pose an attention getting question and then answer it. "Is your money safe?" or "Do you know where your children are?" are examples.
- Minimum of 20 seconds of animation
- Size: height 100 x width 550 pixels
- Invisible button with a getUrl action
- Include the use of at least one bitmap image or one image that has been converted from a bitmap to vector
- Use at least two of the
following
- Animation on a path
- Shape tween
- Mask
Assign.3:Rotoscope

Assign. 4: Flash Interface Design
Create an interface design for a website using Adobe Flash. The site should serve as an interface for examples of your portfolio, a business or a game world.
The emphasis is on continuity of concept and design. Create a consistent look and feel with serious consideration given to the screen design, color scheme and style. The site should have a clear navigation structure. The student should research existing websites to see how others handle look and feel issues.
Optional: Students should develop three characters as part of this assignment. Some of the art and representations of the three characters will be used on the "Interactive" assignment, Assignment 5.
Include the following elements:
- 4 screens with a consistent design: home, about, art, animation

Create an example of a interactive greeting card. Put a special emphasis on the use of royalty free or original material. Think about the following concepts when creating your project: humor, lifestyle, branding. How can timing, movement and sequencing add interest or surprise. How do you establish a narrative or tell a story.
Students will develop three characters. These characters will be interactive. Drag the character to the correct location and he responds with actions or audio. If he is dragged to the wrong location, he snaps back to his starting location.
The card should involve a quiz question. Viewers should be offered some information regarding characters presented.
Students will create a story concept to explain the Flash interaction.
