Final Project : Fall 2008

Over view:
  1. Create a folder titled final_project (be sure to include all of the underscores, no spaces as a UNIX host will consider the spaces to be legitimate characters).

  2. Using your midterm project content or new topic approved by instructor.

  3. You will change the look and feel of midterm project or topic approved by instructor with tables and CSS.

  4. If using the midterm project - it must be dramatically different in look and feel from original.

Final Project Timeline:

Project Scope Completion November. 19, 2008 15% of Final Project grade
Beta for testing November 26, 2008 10 % of Final Project grade
Final Project Presentation December, 3, 2008 No late projects accepted
Final Exam Decempber 8, 2008 Last day of class

Part 1 - Scoping Project - 15% of project grade

  • Complete all parts of Scope handout
  • Submit by Due date
  • Due date - Nov. 19, 2008 by end of class (No late Scopes after deadline)

Part 2 - Beta Testing - 10% of Final Grade

  • All Pages have content (text and images - place holders may be set if needed
  • Navigational links working
  • Presentation set in CSS
  • Due date - Nov. 26, 2008 by 10:30 am ( no late betas after deadline)

Part 3 - Specifications for Final Project Pages 60 % of project grade

  1. CSS will be external
  2. CSS filename will be final.css
  3. All pages and related files must be saved in the final_project folder
  4. The final project web site must include
    • One (1) Index page (from midterm, unless new topic)
    • Four (4) supplemental pages (from midterm, unless new topic)
    • One (1) credits page (new)
    • One (1) Survey Page (new)
  5. Page layout will be within one of 2 table formats (new)
  6. Navbar to be included at top of each page
    • Navbar links should only include main pages
    • If navbar - image buttons, must include text navbar at bottom of page.
    • May use flash buttons or flash text or custom rollover buttons
  7. Include one credit page (new)
  8. Include one form (new) - set in new survey page
    • Decide on what page you will add survey link
  9. Use Nested tables to organize form information
  10. Use min. 8 input controls in form:
  11. queries must be related to topic
    • text
    • password
    • checkbox
    • radio
    • textarea
    • selected list
    • submit /reset buttons
  12. method="post" action="http://webdevfoundations.net/scripts/formdemo.asp"
  13. Homepage must have keyword and description metas (new)
  14. All pages must have distinctive titles
  15. All pages must have basic info metas (author, class, expires)
  16. All page footers must include - Fair Use Statement, Webmaster info, last modified date and link to Credit page
    • footer will be small, italic
  17. All pages must have XHTML validation icon
  18. CSS validation on each page  - 3 bonus points
  19. Add link to midterm homepage on credt page (new)
  20. Add final project link on your homepage

External CSS Criteria:

  • <body> background, text
  • <h1>, <h2> font, color, alignment
  • <p>font, size, color
  • <ol> font, size, color
  • <ul> font, size, color
  • <dl> font, size, color
  • <table> color, font, alignment, size
  • box model to be used in at least one tag(element)
  • Min. 2 classes per site
  • Min. 1 id
  • Hyperlinks <a href> link, visited and hover
  • One point will be deducted for each html presentation attribute found on site

SAVE all final files INSIDE the final_project folder

FTP the final_project folder

Final Project Due: December 3, 2008 by the beginning of class (no final project will be accepted once class starts)

 

Part 4 - Presentation - 15% of final grade

Presentation must be completely different from midterm or topic approved by instructor.
Consider these concepts as criteria for the presentation: (Based on Project Scope)

  • Usability - ease of navigation - Page layout
  • Web readability - Text Design
  • Visual impact - design
  • Priority Placement
