Munchkin cats are cats with abnormally short legs. It is speculated that these cats suffer from a form of achondroplasia, but it has not been proven. I've mainly heard them refered to as, "mini cats" or "weenie cats" in reference to the miniature daschund breed of dog. They normally grow around four to six pounds, and are generally praised for their sweet "dog-like" demeanors.
I have a personal interest in this breed of cat. Originally I believed them to be cats with special needs, but after doing research learned that they have no medical issues and four years ago I purchased my first one. After observing that she had absolutely no limitations, I purchased my second one a year later. The female munchkin has grown four pounds and the male has grown to seven, but he has a tiny eating issue. These cats are a joy to have. They have no idea their legs are short and are pretty funny icebreaker when company drops in!
